Connecting AI Clients to the MCP Gateway
The AI client stores only the gateway endpoint. Unlike the Kron PAM MCP Server, the gateway needs no access token in the client configuration. Users authenticate in the browser when the gateway asks them to.
Common Parameters
- Server name — The name under which the gateway appears in the AI client, for example KronPAM-MCPGateway.
- Endpoint — The gateway endpoint, https://KronPAM_IP_Address:8446/mcp.
- Transport — The HTTP transport.
Configuring Claude Code
Claude Code connects to the gateway through its built-in HTTP transport.
Adding the MCP Gateway Definition
Run the following command in a terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user KronPAM-MCPGateway https://KronPAM_IP_Address:8446/mcpReplace the KronPAM_IP_Address placeholder. The --scope user option makes the gateway available in every project and stores the definition in the .claude.json file in your home directory.
Verifying the Definition
To confirm that Claude Code loads the definition:
1. Start Claude Code in the terminal:
2. Run the following command:
3. Select KronPAM-MCPGateway. Confirm that the Status field shows connected and the Tools field shows 4 tools.

Configuring Claude Desktop
Claude Desktop reads its MCP definitions from the claude_desktop_config.json file. To open the file, navigate to Settings > Developer in Claude Desktop and click the Edit Config button in the Local MCP servers section.
Adding the MCP Gateway Definition
Add the following definition to the file. When the file already contains an mcpServers block, add only the KronPAM-MCPGateway entry:
{
"mcpServers": {
"KronPAM-MCPGateway": {
"command": "npx.cmd",
"args": [
"-y",
"mcp-remote",
"https://KronPAM_IP_Address:8446/mcp",
"--transport",
"http-only"
]
}
}
}Replace the KronPAM_IP_Address placeholder, then save and close the file. Quit Claude Desktop completely and start it again.
