Defining Global Username and Global Password to Authenticate to the Linux Server

2 min

There are different ways to connect to a device via Kron PAM. One of them is to define the username and password of the Linux/Windows server. Global usernames and passwords are local user credentials already used for the Linux/Windows device. Admin users can define these credentials in Kron PAM.

The perks of this method are as below:

  • Kron PAM’s privileged users won’t know the server’s password and can only reach the server over Kron PAM.
  • It prevents password sharing and keeps all the logs of connected users.

To define global username and password for the respective server, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to Device Management > Device Groups.
  2. Go to the Device Groups tab.
  3. Right-click on the device group containing the Linux/Windows Server and select Show Properties.
  4. Select globalUsername from the Property Key section. Enter the username of the Linux/Windows Server User into the Value section and save
  5. Select globalPassword from the Property Key section. Enter the password of the Linux/Windows Server User into the Value section and Save.
