After a user signs in, the gateway creates a session bound to that user. The session only proves the identity of the user and carries no Realm grants. The default session lifetime is eight hours. When the session expires, the next request starts the sign-in again.

Configure the session with the parameters listed in the following table under **Administration** > **System Configuration Manager**.

| **Parameter** | **Description** | **Default** |
| ----------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------- |
| mcp.gateway.session.lifetime.minute | The lifetime of a gateway session in minutes. The range is 15–1440. | 480 |
| mcp.gateway.session.idletime.minute | The idle timeout in minutes. The value cannot exceed the session lifetime. | 30 |
